The latest episode of ‘My Pocket Psych’ features an interview with two talented and enthusiastic workplace psychologists, passionate about bringing psychology to the general public.
I interviewed Tiffany Poeppelman and Beth Maguire, who are two of the co-founders of the Psychology for Business meetup group in Dublin. We discussed their reasons for establishing the meetup (as well as why they asked me to get involved), what they hope to achieve with the group and where they see the meetup going in the future.
The last event focused on the relevance and importance of relationships in the workplace. Having looked at all of the attendee feedback and requests from earlier events, we saw a pattern – the importance of interpersonal interactions at work. So we structured a session that firstly explored the importance of self-awareness and how this can help us better understand others. Using a selection of perspectives (the utility of values, transactional analysis, the relationship between personality and behaviour) we discussed how we can use our self-knowledge to learn more about our colleagues.
We were all impressed with the high levels of interaction and enthusiasm at the event, as well as the offers of support to continue organising the meetups in future. Our next event will take place towards the end of September (date to be agreed) and if you’d like to join the group and learn more about applying psychology in the workplace, simply click here and sign up.
