What is Spark?

WorkLifeSpark is the new online personal development community from WorkLifePsych. It’s for professionals who want to take charge of their own development, and get support and accountability from a community of like-minded peers.

Our ethos is simple: we can learn so much when we learn together, and in doing so, we can create a spark of interest and curiosity that can eventually transform our experience of work.

With a regular calendar of events, the opportunity to upgrade your membership as needed, and access to the WorkLifePsych coaching team – along with expert guest presenters – the emphasis is very much on quality.

Participate in an ongoing online chat with your fellow members. Drop in for an ‘Office Hours’ session to discuss your development. Have a coffee while enjoying a ‘Learn at Lunch’ briefing. Settle in for an impactful skills Masterclass. Take part in a monthly skills challenge. Dip in to our library of digital guides and resources. You can do as much or as little as you like, or your schedule permits.

And as all our events are recorded, you can come back to catch up at a time that suits you. On a device that suits you.

Who is Spark for?

Simply put, Spark is for anyone who is interested in their own development. It might be building their self-awareness, boosting their confidence, beating their procrastination, adapting to a new level of seniority or navigating an organisational change.

Whether you’re taking your first steps in the world of work, leading others, or looking ahead to winding up your career, you’ll find something to meet your needs.

Do any of these sound like you?

  • Perhaps you’re an independent expert or contractor. Without corporate organisational support to arrange training and development, you might neglect it in the face of everyday busyness. Though always feeling that nagging doubt that you ‘should’ be doing something about it.
  • Maybe you’re at the very start of your career and wondering how you’ll acquire the important skills and insights that contribute to success at work, along with a healthy integration of work with the rest of your life.
  • You might be a professional who feels their organisation’s L&D offering doesn’t meet their needs. Without access to a professional coach, you may worry that your development is suffering. With Spark membership you can get access to high quality coaching and training at a fraction of what you’d pay for any single course.
  • It could be that you’re running a small business, but haven’t needed any HR or people development support just yet. You can buy access to Spark for your whole business, safe in the knowledge they’ll have flexible and continuous access to a rich stream of development-focused content and quality learning opportunities.

What’s included?

Learn at Lunch briefings

Each month, we’ll run a session covering the month’s development theme, outline our community challenge and share how you can start putting the concept into practice immediately. Over the next 12 months, we’ll be looking at the role of values, learning how to build personal resilience, developing self-compassion and getting that to-do list under control.

Monthly challenges

Each month in our calendar will have a themed focus, and each of these will include a community challenge. It could be about developing a new habit, addressing some procrastination, or experimenting with a new thinking skill. You’ll get the perfect mix of support, accountability and online chat to keep you going!

'After hours' Q&A sessions

Our quarterly ‘After hours’ sessions give you the opportunity join us live for a Q&A session with a selection of our podcast guests. Imagine the podcast recording is over and we’ve all settled back to discuss the topic in more detail. The perfect opportunity to hear it direct from some of the world’s experts in the psychology of work and development.

Member chat

Use our forum to chat with your fellow members, seek advice and inspiration, and learn from the wealth of experience that our members bring to the community.

Masterclasses (Plus)

Each quarter, we run one of our core masterclasses for members on our Plus membership tier. Covering skills and topics centred on our core themes of productivity, wellbeing and interpersonal effectiveness. Participate live, or watch the recording afterward – whatever works best for you and your schedule. The key thing is turning your insights into action and bringing your new skills to life.

Office hours (Plus)

Each month, we have a drop-in group Zoom call for Plus and Pro members, to discuss all aspects of your personal development. Making change, experimenting with new approaches, tracking your habits – whatever its most relevant to you. Stay for as long as you like, send your questions by email in advance, or simply watch the recording at a time that suits you.

Digital library (Plus)

Get access to professionally-created guides, fact sheets and checklists to support your learning and development. From values clarification, to habit formation, weekly review templates and guides to resilience. These are the resources we share with our executive coachees and attendees at our masterclasses and workshops around the world.

What to expect from Spark

There is an unhelpful amount of faddish and evidence-free advice about personal development online. At WorkLifePsych, we pride ourselves on being evidence-based practitioners. We know just how disruptive, expensive and de-motivating fads and myths can be. We’ll translate the science of psychology in ways that make it actionable for you.

We want to create a community that meets it members’ diverse development needs, suits their varied working arrangements (and time zones!), not to mention preferences for interaction online. Along with regular posts to share our perspective on important personal development topics, we’ll foster ongoing conversation and feedback. We’ll run a variety of online interactive events, including Q&A sessions with the expert guests from our podcast ‘My Pocket Psych’.

If it’s accountability you’re after, never fear! We’ll run monthly challenges for our members, each based on a key personal development topic. So you’ll be able to ‘do the thing’ you’ve been putting off, or try a new approach to solve a long-standing problem. We’ll be looking at how to make a fresh start, how to review your progress, how to cope sustainably with setbacks, and how to deal with your inner critic.

We’ll also have drop-in monthly ‘Office Hours’ sessions, skills-based masterclasses and briefer ‘Learn at Lunch’ sessions. All recorded and made available along with the digital resources that support them.

Membership Levels

We have created membership tiers to meet a variety of needs. We realise that not everyone has the disposable income to subscribe to yet another online service. So we’ll always have a free tier available so that people can join the community and, more importantly, join the conversation. Our paid-for Plus and Pro tiers include increasing levels of interaction and support, including masterclasses and one-to-one coaching. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions about membership and what might be right for you.

Spark

Our free level of membership gives you access to our online discussions, allows you to participate in our themed challenges, attend monthly ‘Learn at Lunch’ briefings and the quarterly ‘After hours’ Q&A sessions with our guest experts. You can also purchase one-off access to each masterclass on the schedule.

Spark Plus

Plus membership gives you everything included in our standard membership tier plus: you can join our monthly ‘Office Hours’ sessions, join us for our quarterly masterclass sessions, access our growing library of digital guides, plus get a 10% discount on all courses and coaching packages. All for just £50 per month!

Spark Pro

Spark Pro members get everything available on our Plus tier, and in addition: a quarterly one-to-one coaching session with one of the WorkLifePsych coaching team, a six-monthly progress review session, plus a 20% discount on our courses and coaching packages. All for just £150 per month.
