Ep 155: Pitfalls to avoid when it comes to values
In this episode, Richard is joined by fellow coaching psychologist Lucie Ilbury for a discussion all about values – and the common pitfalls to avoid when putting them into action.
Our values can act as a compass, giving us a sense of direction. They’re flexible principles, which we can implement and bring to life in a wide variety of ways. We start by clarifying what values actually are and then look at the best way to utilise them at work – and beyond.
Values aren’t goals – we can’t achieve them – and yet, it’s easy to mix up values and goals and think of them as interchangeable. We also discuss the downside of viewing our values as rules, of expecting our values of other people, and only using values for the ‘big ticket’ events in life.
As ever, thanks for listening!
